Autumn Term
Below are some example of writing in year 3. These samples show what we would expect a year 3 child's writing to be like in the spring term.
To meet expected level children need to be using punctuation consistently, be spelling most of their words correctly and have neat handwriting. Children also need to demonstrate that they can use a range of skills in their writing such as expanded noun phrases, commas in a list, possessive apostrophes and fronted adverbials.
Year 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 have been using TT Rockstars this year to learn and practice their times tables. They were excited to organise a TT Rockstars House Team battle before the end of the term, so we have arranged this for next week. From 9.00am Monday morning next week, until 3.00pm on Thursday, the children can collect points for their house teams by playing on TT Rockstars. The team with the most points will have an extra break on Friday afternoon to celebrate.
The children will have access at school to play TT Rockstars at various points during the day next week, but they may also collect points by playing at home too. The competition will be open each day between the house of 7.30am and 7.30pm, once the competition starts on Monday, so please feel free to encourage your child to have a go at home too.
We will let you know how we get on, and good luck to all the house teams!
We ran two events using online maths subscription sites this week to celebrate World Maths Day. Very well done to years 3 and 5 for their 'Top of the Rock' battles against St Bede's in times tables. The top three children in each class have received certificates. Also, well done to the 1000 Point Club members from years 4 and 5 who completed 20 challenges on Mathletics. Alex was highest in year 4 and Emily was highest in year 5. Finally, year 6 also competed in the Mathletics challenge and the highest scorer was Samuel. In this event, Fairfields came 138th in the world and 41st in the country!
Well done once again to the Unicorn team for their amazing win in our House Team TT Rockstars competition this week. The children have been busy this week completing work on TT Rockstars at school and at home to earn points for their house team in our first house team.TT Rockstars event. We will be awarding certificates later today to children in each house team who scored the most points, but we now have the final results. Please be aware that the final results have had to be changed slightly due to an issue at the start of the week, so some points have been deducted from the scores you and the children may have seen on the TT Rockstars website to address this issue.
The scores are as follows:
Griffins 62645
Dragons 43829
Unicorns 163421
Phoenixes 25059
Well done to the Unicorns for their fantastic win, and for all the teams for working so hard this week!
You may have heard from the children that we have set up a TT Rockstars house team competition to run next week from Monday morning until Thursday 27th May at 7.00pm. The children will have an opportunity to go on TT Rockstars and practice their times tables to compete in school, but they will also be able to access the site from home if you would like them to play at home too. We will announce the winning house team on Friday next week. Good luck everyone!
